Serving the community needs of Western Kenya In 1986 the Amani Project was established to bring relief to the poor of rural Western Kenya. Throughout the 1990s the growing awareness of the impact of AIDS brought about the creation of a separate project called JAM with the welfare of the widows and orphans as its principle aim. Today there are three such projects at the heart of the communities: Imani, Kirongo and Umoja, each helping to deal positively with the impact of HIV/AIDS. The experience gained in helping the poor farmers over those years is now the foundation for meeting the needs of the ever-growing number of widows and orphans as well as the disaffected youths who all too often have to assume family responsibility. New programmes of Home Based Care are at the centre of the projects. There are currently 8 nurseries operating across the 3 projects, serving approximately 500 children daily and run by widows on a voluntary basis with significant community support. Most of the children have lost at least one parent; many have lost both. Amani UK is a registered UK charity, operating on a totally voluntary basis. With the Trustees meeting ALL expenses, overheads are nil and 100% of money donated goes to help the people of Kenya. Your help is greatly appreciated.
