Konyuka Lwanda is a rural-based community women’s group involved in multi-sectoral community programmes in Oyugis, Kenya. It has gained prominence in recent months due to its assertiveness in implementing its activities, with technical assistance from Imani community development organization.

The group has a training facility in which various horticultural and general agricultural enterprises are exhibited for community education and information. The facility is appropriately named as a farmers field school where school pupils and community farmers go for free lessons in given value-adding technologies, all conducted by trained community resource persons.

Apart from being a community resource place, the group facility has a donkey and cart transport available for hire by local farmers for a small fee (courtesy of the Amani UK Buy a Gift for Kenya scheme.)

In the pipeline is an ambitious community support programme in which the group has started to assist widows and orphans by communally building simple shelters for those who are unable to build for themselves.

The group also donates food stuffs, clothing, and occasionally assists orphans with problems of paying school fees.

Currently, the group has four trained community health workers and a cluster programme for the purposes of intensive agricultural activity aimed at enhancing collective and individual agricultural output for the benefit of the group and households.

Group members are convinced that their socio-economic status is set to change for the better, provided they correctly implement the improved technologies with proper management and technical assistance from Imani Community Development Organization.
