Many young children and orphans benefited with desks and chairs provided through a generous gift from a member of Holy Trinity Church (Hazlemere, UK) while a young nursery group from the church also contributed to this very important area of help.
The difference between the giving and receiving nurseries could not be more stark: the Kenyan children typically sit on mud floors, with not a toy or teaching aid in sight; but learning to recite and sing in English in addition to their native language of Luo and Swahili.
In addition to the nurseries featured in this story, there are also a growing number of those set up by the various groups of widows in the homes of deceased people. As the Kenyan Government tries to raise the basic education standards so they are bringing pressure on the facilities currently provided by charities like Amani UK. Gifts of this sort are therefore most welcome, not only by the children of Kenya, but also by us as providers of nursery facilities. Jim Leftwich |
