Following Amani UK's launch in October 2006 of the Schools Linking Project we are pleased to annouce the recruitment of Beth Ogumbe as the newly established Schools Liaison Worker supporting all the Kenyan schools that have signed up to link with UK schools.

Beth Ogumbe

Together with the field workers from the three projects in Oyugis she will be responsible to provide the "vital" communication glue between the linked Kenyan schools and UK schools. Specific tasks will include:

  • regular liaison visits to each linked school;
  • point of contact and distribution of messages and post to Kenyan schools;
  • photographer of events and schools;
  • local co-ordinator of UK/ Kenyan school joint projects and shared equipment (in which Amani will be investing over the coming months);
  • creation of a quarterly newsletter for websites and schools.

Beth is 20 years old and an active member of a Kirongo-supported "Youth" community group called 'Bandeko'. She has completed her full secondary education and is hoping to go to college sometime in the future to study community development.

She started work in early February 2007 and has already visited a lot of the linked schools as part of her induction. Her manager is Peter Abuto of Umoja (shown with her above).
