For the past three years the Hazlemere Church of England School has been linked with Masanga School in western Kenya. As well as the natural exchange of greetings and letters, it has given the Head Teacher at Hazlemere, Peter Phelps, the opportunity to bring understanding of Africa into the classroom at Hazlemere School. One result of this is that the children and parents have, by various events, raised significant funds for Masanga School during this time.

Such has been the positive effect of this link between the schools within the Hazlemere area that three more schools are now in the process of establishing links with Kenyan schools in the Oyugis area. This is in addition to the already reported links established by Waddesdon School this year who supported the building of a science laboratory for Nyatindo School.

Jim Leftwich, the Amani UK Coordinator, will be taking video messages and images to Kenya from these additional schools in November 2004 in order to establish the new links. He will be bringing back, not only messages, but video footage of what life is like for the young Kenyan children and orphans. These materials can be readily used as part of our children’s education together with personal interaction with those like Jim who frequently visit Kenya.

Should anyone else be interested in establishing a schools link or simply want to know more please contact Jim by email.
