We visited Orinde Primary School at the end of October 2005 and were very happy to find that the floors of the classrooms had been concreted. This has been paid for with money collected in Smartie Tubes by members of the “Over 60s Friendship Group” at St. Alkmund’s Church in Derby, UK.

It was also very encouraging to learn that the school had been granted funds from the Kenyan government to construct a staff room. This was virtually complete at the time of our visit. John had the pleasure of officially opening the door!

The Moral Widows Group also play a very active part in supporting this school and have contributed towards the building programme. There is still a balance of funds remaining from the Smartie Tube collection and this will now be used to help pay for the plastering of the back walls of a row of classrooms which are in very poor condition.

Well done to all the members of the Over 60s Friendship Group who have made these things possible.
