At the invitation of the officers of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rachuonyo District, Imani participated in the World Food Day, an international event which takes place every year. In 2008 it took place on 16 October 2008 in Kendu Bay, next to Lake Victoria. Imani took representatives from all their member groups to both showcase their work and to learn. Lake Women Group explained the Amaranth plant and the products coming from it. Mang’ang’a Youth Group displayed several crops: water melon, butternuts and value addition plants.

Assisi displayed products made out of cassava and sweet potatoes. In addition Imani representatives got exposure to and learned new farming techniques from the host farmer who works in the driest part of Rachuonyo District but still achieves a lot and has bumper harvests.

At the end of the day the Imani representatives sold their products to the participants and realized a reasonable amount of money, leaving them with smiling faces! Imani registered lots of thanks to Amani UK for the support which made the day a success. This opened the minds of the members of our groups to the fact that whenever there is a field day or show they can make use of the opportunity to generate income as well as to learn.
